Brown University committee votes to divest from companies ‘facilitating human rights violations in Palestine’ – Uprise RI

The Advisory Committee on Corporate Responsibility in Investment Policies voted 6-2-1 in favor of divestment.

On December 2nd, 2019, the Advisory Committee on Corporate Responsibility in Investment Policies (ACCRIP) voted in favor of divestment from companies “facilitating human rights violations in Palestine”. The committee voted six in favor, with two alumni voting no, and one abstaining from the vote.

The vote comes after eight months of deliberation, starting in April 2019, when 69 percent of voters in a Brown undergraduate referendum voted in favor of the same motion. In response to Brown University President Christina Paxson’s dismissal of student concerns the day following the vote, over 100 faculty members authored a letter in favor of the student referendum.

Since then, members of Brown Divest have presented to ACCRIP on multiple occasions, as have Brown Students for Israel.

On December 2nd, nine members of ACCRIP met at Brown University, and heard presentations from faculty opposed to divestment, as well as those in favor. After the presentations, a motion was put forth to vote on whether the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories constitutes social harm. Seven members voted yes, while two alumni abstained. At the end of the meeting, members of the committee motioned to vote on the following language:

“We recommend that the Brown Corporation exclude from Brown’s direct investments, and require Brown’s separate account investment managers to exclude from their direct investments, companies identified as facilitating human rights violations in Palestine. In addition, the Investment Office will share with all investment managers the University’s desire to adhere to this investment philosophy. We recommend that the Corporation and Brown’s separate account investment managers maintain the withdrawal of investments from said companies until they cease to engage in social harm…”

After the motion to vote was made, two alumni voiced concerns about the ‘lack of time’ to deliberate. Sarah Cunningham ‘06 was appointed by President Paxson only weeks before this meeting, and David Mueller ‘81 has been on the committee for six years, and was part of the deliberations when Palestinian human rights violations were discussed in 2013-2014 and in 2017. Eventually, the motion to vote was accepted, and the resolution passed. We are elated that the University committee responsible for divestment has finally joined the calls for divestment from human rights violations in Palestine.

Today, ACCRIP made Brown the first Ivy League University to officially call for divestment from companies that are facilitating the Occupation and its human rights abuses in the West Bank and Gaza. We look forward to other universities joining the movement for dignity and human rights for Palestinians.

Going forward, the Brown community expects the Brown Corporation to divest from companies facilitating human rights violations in Palestine, as demanded by Brown students, who voted for the University to divest, as has ACCRIP, the committee responsible for recommending University divestment. Companies that have been identified for divestment based on their involvement in social harm in Palestine include Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, Oaktree Capital Management, AB Volvo, Motorola, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, United Technologies, and G4S.

‘Israel is joining an ugly club,’ says rights group as director expelled

HWH ClipBoard: Thank you Omar Shakir for sacrificing your presence in Palestine\Israel without sacrificing your work to expose: the UGLY TRUTH of discrimination enslavement torture and slaughter of the Palestinian People, thus the collective Palestinian Soul and the destruction and theft of Palestinian habitats by the Israeli government, that then hands those habitats over to Jewish Immigrant Poachers with impunity and arrogance.

Human Rights Watch’s Israel director Omar Shakir leaves for Jordan under 2017 law

Oliver Holmes in Jerusalem

Mon 25 Nov 2019 08.04 EST

Last modified on Mon 25 Nov 2019

Omar Shakir is the first person to be expelled from Israel under a 2017 law allowing the deportation of foreigners who support a boycott of Israel. Israel has deported the local director of Human Rights Watch for his alleged support for a boycott campaign, a move the advocacy group said placed the country in an “ugly club” of authoritarian regimes.

Omar Shakir, HRW’s Israel and Palestine representative, lost a landmark supreme court case this month that centred on Israel’s ability to expel its critics. The government had refused to renew Shakir’s visa, and Monday is the deadline for him to leave.

At a press conference in Jerusalem hours before his flight, the researcher condemned the decision as an escalating assault on the human rights movement.

“If the Israelis can deport somebody documenting rights abuse without facing consequence, how can we ever stop rights abuse?” said Shakir. Israel argues its objection is to Shakir alone, not human rights campaigners generally.

The expulsion of Shakir, a US citizen, is seen as a test case for a contentious 2017 law that allows the government to deport people who support a boycott of Israel or Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Many of Israel’s critics have been denied entry under the law, but Shakir is the first person already working in the country to be expelled using the legislation.

Kenneth Roth, HRW’s executive director, denied that the New York-based advocacy group, or Shakir as its representative, had supported a boycott against Israel. He said pressing businesses to acknowledge the rights abuses of the Israeli occupation was not the same as a boycott. For example, HRW has pushed Airbnb to remove rentals in settlements.

“It is standard procedure that human rights groups insist that businesses avoid complicity in human rights violations,” said Roth, who travelled to Jerusalem for the press conference. “Omar applied those same principles to ask businesses not to support Israel’s illegal settlements … Human Rights Watch has never urged a boycott of Israel.”

Shakir would continue his role remotely from Amman in neighbouring Jordan, Roth said.

“We’re used to operating in countries that bar our research. We’ve learned the necessity of monitoring human rights abuses from afar in countries like Iran and Egypt and Venezuela, all of which have barred our researchers,” said Roth. “Israel today is joining that ugly club of governments.”

He warned the expulsion would hamper his group’s work, including critical research on rights abuses carried out by Israel’s enemies, including Hamas.

The United Nations and European Union have criticised the decision to deport Shakir and called on Israel to reverse it. The UK government said it urged Israel to allow civil society organisations to operate freely.

Shakir said his being forced to leave was a minor hindrance in comparison to the increasingly suffocating atmosphere for Israeli and Palestinian rights advocates, who had suffered travel bans, arrests and office raids.

Israel passed the 2017 law used against Shakir as a measure to criminalise the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, which advocates for broad boycotts. Rights groups say it encodes bars on free speech into law.

The Ministry of Strategic Affairs, which spearheaded efforts to expel Shakir, said Israel, “like any sane country, has the right to decide who is given the freedom to enter and work within its borders”. It accused Shakir of being a “BDS propagator”.

Israel’s case against Shakir was based on statements on boycotts he made before he joined HRW but also his more recent work criticising settlements.

In the most high-profile use of the anti-BDS law, Israel blocked in August two highly critical US congresswomen, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, from a planned trip to Palestine and Jerusalem.

Israel later agreed to a request by Tlaib to visit Palestinian members of her family on the condition that she did not express her views on the boycott. However, Tlaib subsequently rejected the offer, saying the conditions were “oppressive”.

Court says EU states must label Israeli settlement products

HWH RESPONSE: Yes. Thank you for moving in a positive direction against illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel.

Those products of which Israelis speak are not made in Israel. They are made in Israeli-occupied areas of Palestine.

How blatant the theft, to steal the Palestinian’s ability to grow their own produce to sell on the world markets to support themselves, while simultaneously extracting Palestinian-grown olive trees from Palestinian ground, so the Israeli settlers could grow their own produce where the Palestinians once grew theirs.

Do you know how long it takes for an olive tree to grow and bear fruit? Five years to begin bearing fruit and full fruit growth in seven to eight years. Do you know the pain associated with losing all those years?

I do, and I never grew an olive tree. Why doesn’t the rest of the world see the pain Israelis inflict on the Palestinians? Take their hope away. I heard that many times in Ariel Sharon’s day. How do they do that? By taking Palestine’s means to support themselves away and turning ownership rights willy-nilly over to themselves. That’s called stealing. Larceny. Grand theft. Bigger than grand theft.

That the Israelis laugh at how poor the Palestinians, that they can’t support themselves, so they don’t deserve to be an independent nation is egregious. Unforgivable behavior by Israelis who claim to want peace with their neighbors.

  • Israel does not consider Palestinians their neighbors. People of the world need to come to grips with Israeli thought on who is their neighbor. All countries, except the one they occupy.

Israel needs to be stopped. The entire world knows that Israel will not stop themselves. The entire world knows of their claims not to be psychologically or physically capable of stopping themselves. Ariel Sharon incredulously said, “nobody stops us”. Nothing has changed.

Nobody has, all these years later.

When people say that, and then they demonstrate that to be a truth, then the world has no choice but to intervene and stop them before they do more damage.

The Palestinian people are in massive incarceration camps throughout those Israeli-occupied territories. They are slaves. They are not free to survive and thrive.

And now, Israelis take their plants. THEIR PLANTS! How low can anybody go? That which a people needs to subsist, the enemy, now appropriately called Adolph Hitler, moves in and takes those TOO!

The European Union took an important action. Now it is the responsibility of the USA to second that action by lifting the ban on boycotting products made by Israelis in Israeli-occupied territories.

It is morally reprehensible for Israelis to uproot Palestinian olive trees and then to plant their own seeds and sell the produce on the world market under the fake label of Made In Israel.

The gall it took. How stupid the Israelis must think the rest of the world is to accept such a lie.

The USA has factories all over the world, where they hire foreigners to operate those factories. When a product from any of those places enters for sale into the USA it has on its label the name of the foreign entity where it was actually made. It does not say MADE IN THE USA.

  • Nobody should trust any country that uses fake labels of origin on any product sold anywhere.

The only way Made In Israel could not be a fake label would be if all of Palestine was included under the Israeli flag of nationship and it clearly is not.

Palestinians are not Israelis and they do not benefit from Israeli businesses on Palestinian land. Even if they did, they still couldn’t call it Made In Israel.

  • Next stop USA. All Jewish companies that make products in the USA will now put on their labels Made In Israel. That’s the plan. No one really thought this was the end of the Israeli Domination plan did they?

The same thing will happen in Europe. The European Jews will cry anti-Semitism, they’ll stage a bunch of carefully designated, strategically placed attacks done by their own people, claiming the second Holocaust is coming and the sky will fall all over the world. Why? Because the Jews will make it fall.

Don’t succumb to their antics. They will act like addicts in need of a fix. Don’t give it. It’s time they went through the withdrawal of “we can no longer control the world through terrorizing public officials and businesses. We can no longer make people’s lives living hells till they give us what we want when we want it.”

Israelis made a huge blunder when they slapped a Made In Israel label on goods made in occupied territories. That was a sneaky, underhanded move that unfortunately the USA sanctioned by punishing businesses in the USA who refused to buy products made by Israelis in occupied Palestine.

How did they punish them? In the way Benjamin Netanyahu told them to punish them. Refuse them government contracts. What did the USA Congress do? Exactly that – democrats and republicans participated in punishing American citizens who own and operate businesses in the USA, by telling them who they could and could not buy from, at the expense of being denied government contracts.

So Israel really is running the USA?

The USA Congress colluded with Israel to keep an enslaved people enslaved by stealing its ability to support themselves.

Grow your own food in your own land, not on somebody else’s, then labeling it made in yours.

The arrogance required to think they rule all the world in all matters Israeli and regarding all matters Palestinian and regarding all matters American and regarding all matters European should make the entire world they claim to control stand up and say, “no you don’t”. Asia too?

The European Union just did that.

  • Make that move count for freedom for all peoples, not everyone except the Palestinians whom the Israelis need to keep under their thumbs as their forever slaves.

The entire world seeks to free all enslaved people, except the Palestinians in Palestine.

  • In hindsight, strategically, Jews should have called the homeland they sought Palestine, instead of naming it Israel after a minority of people who lived there.

Actually, Humpty-Humpty can be put back together again. I’ve seen people do it.

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union’s top court ruled Tuesday that EU countries must identify products made in Israeli settlements on their labels, in a decision welcomed by rights groups but likely to spark anger in Israel.

The European Court of Justice said that “foodstuffs originating in the territories occupied by the State of Israel must bear the indication of their territory of origin.”

The Luxembourg-based court said when products come from an Israeli settlement, their labeling must provide an “indication of that provenance” so that consumers can make “informed choices” when they shop.

The EU has consistently spoken out against Israeli settlement expansion, saying it undermines the hopes for a two-state solution by gobbling up lands claimed by the Palestinians. Israel says the labeling is unfair and discriminatory and says other countries involved in disputes over land are not similarly sanctioned.

The EU wants any produce made in the settlements to be easily identifiable to shoppers and insists that they should not carry the generic “Made in Israel” tag.

Israel captured the West Bank and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and began settling both areas shortly afterward. The Palestinians claim both areas as parts of a future state, a position that has global support.

The international community opposes settlement construction and many countries consider them illegal. Their continued growth is seen to undermine the establishment of an independent Palestine alongside Israel. Today, nearly 700,000 Israelis live in the two areas, almost 10% of the country’s Jewish population.

The ECJ underlined that settlements “give concrete expression to a policy of population transfer conducted by that State outside its territory, in violation of the rules of general international humanitarian law.”

It said any failure to identify the point of origin of produce meant that “consumers have no way of knowing, in the absence of any information capable of enlightening them in that respect, that a foodstuff comes from a locality or a set of localities constituting a settlement established in one of those territories in breach of the rules of international humanitarian law.”

Human Rights Watch welcomed the ruling. The rights watchdog’s EU Director Lotte Leicht said it’s “an important step toward EU member states upholding their duty not to participate in the fiction that illegal settlements are part of Israel. European consumers are entitled to be confident that the products they purchase are not linked to serious violations of international humanitarian law.”

In Israel, Professor Eugene Kontorovich, director of International Law at the Jerusalem-based Kohelet Policy Forum, said “the European Court is approving putting a new kind of ‘Yellow Star’ on Jewish-made products.”

“This blatant discrimination makes it more urgent than ever for the Trump administration to defy Brussels by making official what has long been U.S. practice, to allow these products to be labelled ‘Made in Israel’,” said Kontorovich.

It’s not entirely clear how the ruling will be enforced.

European retailers would normally be expected to do the labelling, but the real origin of the produce is not always easy to identify, experts say.

The case came to court after an Israeli winery based in a settlement near Jerusalem contested France’s application of a previous ECJ court ruling on the labeling. That ruling backed the use of origin-identifying tags but did not make them legally binding.

The winery and Israel’s Foreign Ministry had no immediate comment on the ruling.

Israeli leader invites rival to join in unity government

AP NEWS

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited his political rival Benny Gantz to join a unity government with him and his religious allies on Thursday, an offer that was greeted coolly amid continued deadlock following this week’s election.

The deadlock has already raised speculation about a possible third election in the coming months, just two days after an unprecedented repeat vote left the country’s two main political parties with no clear path to a coalition government. While weeks of negotiations to form a coalition government lay ahead, conditions set by the parties could hobble the task within the allotted time, forcing another election.

With nearly all votes counted Thursday, the centrist Blue and White party stood at 33 seats in Israel’s 120-seat parliament. Netanyahu’s conservative Likud stood at 31 seats. Neither party, however, can muster a majority coalition of 61 seats with their smaller allies.“

Throughout the campaign I called for a right-wing government, but unfortunately the election results show that’s not possible,” Netanyahu said in a video statement. “Therefore there is no choice but to form a broad unity government.”

“We cannot and there is no reason to go to third elections,” he added.

Netanyahu repeated the plea later Thursday at a memorial for late former Israeli President Shimon Peres, where he and Gantz, a former military chief of staff, shook hands in their first public encounter since Tuesday’s vote.

Neither party can form a majority government without the support of the election’s apparent kingmaker, Avigdor Lieberman of the Yisrael Beitenu party.

Lieberman refuses to sit with Netanyahu’s ultra-Orthodox religious allies and has called for a broad, secular unity government with Likud and Blue and White.

Blue and White also favors a unity deal, but has pledged not to sit in the same government as Netanyahu due to the Israeli leader’s legal woes. Netanyahu is expected to be indicted in a slew of corruption scandals in the coming months. But the fiercely loyal Likud is unlikely to oust Netanyahu.

At a Blue and White meeting, Gantz gave Netanyahyu’s offer an icy reception, saying he planned to establish a unity government “headed by me.” He shrugged off Netanyahu’s offer as “spin.”

Yair Lapid, a senior Blue and White member, accused Netanyahu of dragging the country to a third election and called for him to step down.

“One person is preventing right now the establishment of a liberal unity government. One person stands between what is good for the country and what’s good for that person. And country always comes first,” he said. Both parties were meeting with allies in the vote’s aftermath and the focus will soon shift to President Reuven Rivlin, who will consult with all parties in the coming days and select the candidate who he believes has the best chance of putting together a stable coalition.

The candidate has 42 days to do so and, if he fails, the president can give another candidate 28 days to form a coalition. If that fails, the president could then order new elections, something that has never happened. Speaking at the Peres memorial, Rivlin promised he will do everything in his power to prevent a third election.

The deadlock follows the second Israeli elections this year, which were called because Netanyahu failed to cobble together a coalition following the April vote.

Instead of allowing another candidate a chance to form a government, Netanyahu dissolved parliament and ordered this week’s unprecedented do-over election.Israelis endured a caustic campaign that saw a combative Netanyahu fighting for his political survival amid the recommendation by Israel’s attorney general to indict him on charges of bribery, breach of trust and fraud pending a hearing in early October.

Netanyahu had sought an outright majority with his allies in hopes of passing legislation to give him immunity from the expected indictment.

Israeli law does not require an indicted prime minister to resign. But a trial for a sitting prime minister would be a huge national distraction and fuel calls for the Israeli leader to step aside.

Tuesday’s vote was largely seen as a referendum on Netanyahu, who this summer surpassed Israel’s founding prime minister to become the country’s longest-serving leader.

During the campaign Netanyahu cast himself as a seasoned statesman who was the only candidate able to steer Israel through a sea of challenges. But his acrimonious campaign also included repeated attacks on the country’s Arab minority, drawing charges of racism, along with allegations that the media, judiciary and others were conspiring to oust him.

Gantz, a former army chief, tried to paint Netanyahu as divisive and scandal-plagued, offering himself as a calming influence and honest alternative.

Despite the scorched earth campaign, Netanyahu failed to secure the resounding victory he needed to guarantee his political survival and perhaps save himself from a formal indictment…

IT’S A TRAP. Israel approves Palestinian construction in West Bank – Don’t Take That Deal

HWH COMMENT: Welcome to the Palestinian Hood is what Benjamin Netanyahu meant when he approved the building of 700 housing units in the West Bank while simultaneously approving permits for 6,000 units for Israeli settlers. Settlers = colonizers aka squatters. So the Russian squatters got 89% and the indigenous Palestinians got 11% of the total number of permits handed out.

To Palestine: Don’t Take that deal. It is a deal clothed in building contracts and loopholes and tricks. When you take that deal, you relinquish control over the West Bank. The West Bank, in its entirety belongs to the Palestinian people, not to the Jews who stole it. Now they come back and say okay, we’ll give you a little bit of what we took, but the Palestinians won’t own the land. They can only build those 700 units on that land and pay rent to Israel. Plus Israel will want the building contracts.

DON’T TAKE IT. Start tearing down those fences and walls. Take your land back. Israelis do not control what you can and cannot build on your land.

No Jew or aggregate of Jews anywhere on the planet can exert sovereignty rights over you and/or your actions.

[Touring new construction in the West Bank settlement of Efrat, south of Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Wednesday that “not a single settlement or a single settler will ever be uprooted.”]

Palestinians Will No Longer Abide by Previous Agreements Made With Israel

HWH Comment: Good move!

Abbas: Palestinians to halt agreements with Israel. Agreements Include Those Signed Over the Past 25 Years Covering Many Spheres of Activity, Including Security Co-operation

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says the Palestinians will no longer abide by previous agreements made with Israel.

His announcement followed an emergency meeting after Israel razed Palestinian buildings it said were illegally built on the edge of Jerusalem.

Agreements signed over the past 25 years cover many spheres of activity, including security co-operation.

Israel has not yet responded to the move.

Mr. Abbas said a committee would be formed to work out how to implement the decision.

Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have heightened in recent days after the demolition of the buildings in Wadi Hummus (an area of Sur Baher), which Israel’s High Court said had been built too close to its West Bank barrier…

PLO official, Palestinian spokesperson Hanan Ashrawi says US denied her visa

HWH COMMENT: Denying this hero and non-violent spokesperson for the Palestinian people a visa to visit her family who lives in America is another egregious attempt by American Jews to slap in the face the very people with whom they claim to want to make peace.

This only proves that Israel and all of Israeli sympathizers don’t know how to make peace. The Jews decided to keep Hanan Ashrawi locked inside the concentration camps the Israelis built on Palestinian land to imprison the entire Palestinian population post WWII.

Approve her visa. Now.

PALESTINIAN INDEPENDENCE PLAN

(May 14, 2019 / JNS)

Hanan Ashrawi, longtime aide to Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, said on Monday that she had been refused a travel visa to the United States.

“It is official! My US visa application has been rejected. No reason given,” she wrote on Twitter. “Choose any of the following: I’m over 70 & a grandmother; I’ve been an activist for Palestine since the late 1960’s; I’ve always been an ardent supporter of nonviolent resistance.”

Ashrawi told the AFP that her daughter and grandchildren live in the United States, and that she travels to America three or four times a year. She said she has never before been denied a visa.

Ashrawi, a member of the PLO executive committee and former P.A. Minister of Higher Education and Research, has been a Palestinian spokesperson for the last 30 years.

In May of last year, following the transfer of the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Ashrawi told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that “the U.S. has dealt a serious blow, if not a death blow, to the peace process.”

“It has disqualified itself as a peacemaker or an intermediary,” she added.

On Sunday, Ashrawi took to Twitter to blast Trump administration peace envoy Jason Greenblatt, saying “this self-appointed advocate/apologist for Israel claims not only to know what’s good for the Palestinians, but also claims that he knows them better than they know themselves. Patronising, condescending hubris!”

The comment came after P.A. leaders preemptively rejected the Trump administration’s Mideast peace plan, following which Greenblatt told Fox News on Saturday that “if they fail to engage constructively and professionally to see if a deal can be reached, then shame on them.”…

Mossad On Facebook?

Mossad operatives on social media defending the south of the border immigrants’ right to return to what they claim to be their original land – the USA.

That’s bold – considering how they feel about the Palestinian’s right to return to the land Israelis stole from them. Guess they deem them trouble makers whom they’d like off their newfound land of milk and honey.

I say let Mossad deal with trouble makers so the USA doesn’t have to.

This Is Supposed to Be About Saudi Arabia

HWH Commentary:

People in general, but particularly in the USA, like to punish individuals or entities for unacceptable behaviors through financial avenues, that result in punishing themselves or punishing other entities that had nothing to do with the unacceptable action, which essentially results in collective punishment with the hopes that the ones unjustly punished will punish the offenders further? And stop all future objectionable behaviors?

How naive is that? How foolish is that? You’d rather a pound of flesh than a multi-billion dollar contract? So it benefits everyone? But the offenders? The immediate offenders are always dealt with.

You know, this continual need for revenge at the expense of progress and development and moving the world forward is moving certain players backwards.

So the Jews are calling for everybody’s heads unless they get a piece of the multi-billion dollar contract action. Looked like that guy was part Jew anyway. Can we prove it? We don’t have to.

Don’t give the Jews a dime. Get them off our coats. That they came out so quickly, before anybody else, to state their claim via their greasy black-haired costumed presence on Fox news, speaks their intent via opportunity, or their end game via complicity. More like both. Trump emboldened Israel by the embassy move to Jerusalem.

They want in on anything contractual – anywhere in Arab Territory. They’re already looking down the road at building contracts in Syria. First they had to bomb the cement to powder, so they could do as the USA always does, make peace then rebuild. The Israeli way is different though. They plan on a big payday from the USA to help them rebuild Syria. Where’s the Russia collusion? What an effective DECOY that was planned by Israeli Russians.

If someone does something egregious, do not under any circumstances apply a punishment that will also punish the offended or the entity meting out the punishment or anyone not directly involved.

What is the purpose in that, except to imply that the offended somewhat or somehow shares blame for the act or acts committed.

In the USA we do not punish the entire family because one member acts out or breaks the law (The United Nations is a big supporter of that policy, by the way, under the rules of occupation, bulldozing the family house where a terrorist was born.). Just because the United Nations condones the vendetta policies of Peoples, that doesn’t make it law that one must carry out collective vengeance.

Even Israel said it didn’t work. The wall is what stopped the attacks, not the Palestinian’s ‘will’ to attack. (That’s something Israel needs to work on – not caring who hates them.) Getting along with people is a necessary component of progress. The Jews leave that out of their strategies, which always proves to be a mistake. On the other hand, if someone refuses to civilize themselves, then who can blame the reaction when nothing ever works except complete submission to their ‘will’. It is not in the human animal’s nature to submit when there is no benefit.

Where there is a ‘will’ there is a way.

That’s why Israel purposely leaves out solutions that would alter the ‘will’. They’d have no leverage if the Palestinians stopped wanting to attack them.

The Road to Palestinian Statehood

,

I write on human rights and persecution of minorities around the world Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own.

End of September 2017, INTERPOL announced that the State of Palestine (together with the Solomon Islands) was to became its newest member. The announcement followed a vote which required a two-thirds majority of INTERPOL’s General Assembly.  The favourable vote came as a surprise to many as the question of Palestine’s statehood remains controversial.

Chinese President Xi Jinping speaks during the 86th INTERPOL General Assembly at Beijing National Convention Center on September 26, 2017, in Beijing, China. The General Assembly themed ‘Connecting Police for a Safer World’ took place in Beijing from September 26-29. (Photo credit: Lintao Zhang – Pool/Getty Images)

INTERPOL’s acceptance of Palestine as a member country was not the biggest surprise of the past years. One of the most significant stakeholders in the Palestinian statehood issue is the International Criminal Council (ICC).

For the ICC, the question of Palestinian statehood is of marked significance. For the ICC to have the jurisdiction to investigate a situation and prosecute, the state in question must be a signatory to the Rome Statute. This equips the ICC with the so-called territorial jurisdiction. The Prosecutor can then trigger investigations from her right, proprio motu, or a state can refer the situation to the ICC. If the state in question is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, the ICC may still gain jurisdiction if the country voluntarily accepts the jurisdiction of the ICC or if the UN Security Council refers the situation to the ICC. The first hurdle for any party seeking to join the ICC is that it must first be a state.

The $221 million Obama quietly sent to Palestine in his last hours in office went through

$220.3 million released for West Bank programs such as water, education, renewable energy, civil society, municipal governance, and the rule of law.

During his final hours in office, on the same day current President Donald Trump would be inaugurated, Barack Obama authorized the State Department to release about $221 million in withheld funds to Palestinians living in the West Bank — and it looks like it’s finally gone through.

Despite a review imposed on the payment by the incoming Trump administration, and the perception that Obama had turned away from supporting Israel towards the end of his term, acting State Department Spokesman Mark Toner confirmed the money had reached the Palestinians last month.

“So 20 – 220.3 million that was released was for West Bank programs such as water, infrastructure, education, renewable energy, civil society, municipal governance, and the rule of law, as well as Gaza recovery. And a smaller amount was to go directly to Israeli creditors of the Palestinian Authority as well as East Jerusalem hospitals,” Toner said at a press briefing in March.

“None of the funding was to go directly to the Palestinian Authority,” said Toner, contrary to reports that came out at the time. “It’s my understanding that the money has been released.”

Toner’s statement fits with the Obama administration’s earlier notification to Congress that said the money would go towards promoting the “rule of law,” the Associated Press reported at the time.

Obama’s move to release the funds came as he closed his presidency with a critical eye toward Israel. In December 2016, the UN Security Council passed a resolution demanding that Israel stop building settlements on Palestinian land. The US refused to vote on the resolution, effectively allowing it to pass.

But far from being a slight to Israel, experts say the funds released by Obama, and later approved by Trump, actually promote stability in the region…

PAL-ISR = 50/50 or PALIS (that’s the deal)

Memo to President Donald J. Trump

[50/50]

1A – Borders Currently Confirmed. The borders of Palestine and Israel are all the currently confirmed borders of all surrounding existing countries, such as Egypt, Jordan etc. plus the sea and air-space as recognized by those nations (according to the United Nation’s rules and regulations, applying one to all recognized nations). Those are the borders of Palestine and Israel.

2B – Dividing The Land. Fifty-fifty. Contiguous. The history no longer matters. The group, all the groups, no longer matter. The individual and the masses are and will be the only focus. All land not a part of any surrounding country gets divided fifty-fifty.

3C – The Right Of Return. Every refugee or family or friends of refugees are allowed to return to any place inside those currently confirmed borders, but they need to pay their own way, and pay to rent a dwelling or purchase a piece of land and/or dwelling at fair market prices determined by the governing forces of Palestine and Israel.

Palestine decides how many states they want under the Federal umbrella of Palestine (one or more). Each state must be contiguous.

4D – Capital. Jerusalem belongs to the world. The world owns Jerusalem. A non-military zone. The land of Jerusalem is owned separately by an International Assembly of Cultural Peoples, for the Advancement of the Five Principles.  Democratically elected members of the International Assembly will govern Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is nobody’s capital city. Tel Aviv can move anywhere within it’s fifty percent borders. Palestine can make their capital anywhere within it’s fifty percent borders.

Now you have two countries living side by side, each with a capital city, each with their own governments, each with air and sea space that they control as facilitators of commerce. And the world owns Jerusalem.

OR…

[PALIS]

Sounds like Paris. Implies something royal, like a palace. Palestine and Israel. The Jews rejected Ispal, so now they get placed on the other end, instead of at the beginning. Each get four letters and share the fifth: ‘P’ = power. If you want me to pursue this further I will, and you know who I’m talking to. Though I think it’s best that we don’t. All right you asked for it.  I know you’re going to point out that Palestine has more letters, which puts you at a disadvantage. Though Israel minus the R is contained in Palestine, and Palestine is contained in Israel minus the PETN. ‘E’ is repeated. ‘I’ comes before ‘P’ so that should even out the extra letters in Palestine. Okay, so 9 plus 6 equals 15, an odd number, but that’s if you count ‘E’ twice. If you leave it out, that makes equal for both with nothing to share. Okay count it twice. Then, that’s 7 for each of you with the 15th shared. That’s enough!! This little game of yours is over.

Face it, conditions on the ground are not your obstacle to resolution. The obsessive compulsive component of your personalities is all that stops you. The world is going to think you all insane with all this silliness. For years the right of return was the last problem under consideration. We make it the first. Times have changed. Last comes first.  Just as you couldn’t form a new government in Germany while the Jews remained in concentration camps around Europe, you can’t form a new Palestinian/Israeli State while Palestinians remain in Camp Gaza and Camp West Bank. The multitude of Palestinians incarcerated in concentration camps in Gaza and the West Bank are to be released, not in ten or twenty years, but NOW.

You were rescued from concentration camps. Now it’s time to dismantle your own. It’s disgusting how you repeated your own history by making nobody forget, lest it happen again, all the while you were doing it. You did it. Face it. Now change it before a group of nations similar to those who freed you, decide to free the enslaved Palestinians.

Now.

Jerusalem becomes a state, like Vatican City, governed by representatives from all groups, somewhat like the United Nations. It will become an International gathering place. Everything outside of Jerusalem will exist as one state, one nation called Palis. All peoples will work together for a common goal of peace and prosperity for all. All religions and ethnic groups will be respected and honored, as Palis becomes an example to the rest of the world, a blueprint for integration and positive, prosperous change–a melting pot that turns away no one.

I can see Palis as the capital of the United Middle East. What a sight! Look what they’re doing in Dubais on a piece of land the size of Rhode Island.

The Jews were rejected, the Palestinians rejected. You do have something in common. Put the brakes on the repetitive chatter in your minds my little Palis babies, and get your little buzz butts busy planning this spectacular Oasis. “You can do it. I know you can.” What? You can’t change the name? Since when, my little Maccabees?

It’s time for the Maccabees to come out of the closet. Look Maccabees up in the bible if you don’t know what it means. They occupy a whole section. There’s a reason why Italian Jews look different from English Jews, Indian Jews, African Jews and Danish Jews. It’s not only because they were born in their respective countries, it’s because they really are part Italian, English, Indian, African and Danish.

Most of us don’t know that at some point along the way we have some Jew in us. Sorry to burst your pure race minority bubble scam, but it’s time to drop that poor us, tiny little group of persecuted people, sympathy card that you use as your calling card in the pursuit of all you covet.

Israel Targeting Palestinian Protesters on Facebook

ON THE MORNING of August 28, 2014, two days after the end of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, Sohaib Zahda hopped into a shared taxi in Hebron that was going to Ramallah, where he had a job interview.

Thirty-three-year-old Zahda, who owns a paintball company, is an unlikely terrorist. An avid cyclist who speaks Arabic, Italian, French, and English, he is a member of Youth Against Settlements, a nonviolent organization that protests against Israeli settlers who live in and around Hebron. He is opposed to Hamas firing rockets into Israel. He likes to tell visitors his grandfather had Jewish friends in Hebron in the 1920s.

Hebron and Ramallah are about 25 miles apart. To get between them, Palestinians must pass through the “container checkpoint,” manned by Israeli soldiers on a road that connects the southern West Bank to its central and northern cities. At the checkpoint — named for a shipping container once located at the barrier — Palestinian pedestrians queue up to get their IDs checked, while cars wait for inspection and for soldiers to wave them through. When Zahda’s taxi drove up, masked Israeli soldiers stopped the vehicle, asked him to get out, and then handcuffed him….

HWH Comment: This story is way too long. Nobody, unless they like short novels and they feel like reading one, is going to get through this article.

What is it about Arabs and Palestinians and Persians that they have to include every detail surrounding anything they write about? Just give the facts.

Of course Israel is going to blame Palestinians for inciting violence against Israelis. The Palestinians are the ones committing the violence of which the Israelis speak.

Israel is not going to look to themselves as the cause. Israel thinks they are perfectly justified in prejudice, discrimination, enslavement, torture and slaughter against a people whose land they covet. They want your land. Why can’t you see the cause of what they do? For the same reason they can’t see the cause of what you do.

Israelis don’t know how to make peace. Palestinians obviously don’t know how to make peace either. Israel wants what they want and they are going to get it – your land. For all these years you haven’t come up with a viable plan – except to kill yourselves. Whoa. Nobody anywhere in the world wants to invest in a people who want to kill themselves. Don’t say you kill yourselves because of what they do to you. That’s not an excuse, a reason nor a plan. Why do you keep asking them to free you? Are you little children? Free yourselves. Work with them, not for them. Equal partners. In everything. Show you can do it.

Hamas and Hezbollah keep saying they have discipline. No you don’t. Yes, I’m talking to you directly. You have no discipline – and the Jews have even less. There is no discipline in killing – in torturing. There is no discipline in building tunnels for the purpose of getting guns. Build a tunnel to get supplies for survival if at all. Guns destroy, and the world thinks you all have a death wish. Israel has a death wish too. They just keep putting themselves in the line of fire instead of moving away from it.

Stop posting death images and threats on social media. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t build or throw a bomb. You may, without knowing it, encourage somebody else to do it. Why should you vent your evil onto the world? I don’t want to hear your anger, your hatred, your destructive thoughts. I don’t want to see the inner you reflected in the images you post. I don’t want to fear you, so don’t try to make me fear you.

Make me want to like you. Both. I’m talking to both of you. Jews don’t care if anybody likes them. That scares me. That means they have no self control and don’t care what they do, how they do it, to whom they do it, when or where or what time they do it. Nobody wants to invest in loose cannons, in people whose direction changes with the wind, people who don’t respect the views of others – only their own.

Hey, if Israel had their way, they’d drown every last Palestinian. Unfortunately the only way to prevent that is to work with them not for them. Jews work very hard at making you hate them, so you’ll pop and then they’ll feel justified in murdering you. Don’t let it happen. Exercise some self control. Build a future not a bomb. Build a life not a death sentence.

Don’t be so arrogant. Neither of you have anything to be arrogant about.

Marco Rubio Is Not An Honest Broker

In the last Republican debate, Marco Rubio blasted Donald Trump for not taking the side of Israel over the Palestinians in what could be a future negotiation between those two parties, that Donald Trump, if president, would reside over.

Marco Rubio’s position was that because Israel is our friend and ally, that essentially Israel should get ninety percent of the pie – going in, as a silent precondition. And then they’d haggle over the other ten percent, with again Israel taking the greater portion of the ten percent. That was the gist of it.

To Israel: Hey, don’t worry, I’ve got your back. I’ll make sure they get squat.

At that point, the Israeli leader would generously hand over a few trinkets not in the deal to sweeten the deal and all will be happy.

Yeah, maybe in Rubio’s la-la land mind.

There can be no favoritism when one person or one entity, claiming to be an honest broker in whom both sides can trust, negotiates in the best interest of both parties.

It has to be in the best interest of both parties absent punishment for past deeds or speech directed at either party by the opposing party.

Otherwise you’re not the so-called honest broker you claim to be and you have no business negotiating except on behalf of one faction. In that scenario, there’s only one faction sitting at the table. That’s been the problem since the beginning. All the so-called honest brokers were not so honest. They all gave Israel the upper hand. That’s why there was never a viable deal that was going to happen. Israel and their negotiators made sure of that. Then they blamed the Palestinians for leaving the table, when their intent was to make them walk away in the first place.

Israel wants only one deal – their deal. When they promise to give something up, you can be sure that they designed specific areas in advance – over the years – to offer as tokens to the Palestinians. The settlers in those designated areas will make a big noise, as if they were being driven from their God-given homes supported by the bible-document, when they were paid to settle for that purpose to begin with. All done to make Israelis look like they’re making painful sacrifices.

Marco Rubio has never negotiated anything of import that could prepare him for the presidency.

Hillary Clinton already had her shot as Secretary of State and missed.

Bernie Sanders couldn’t negotiate his way out of a paper bag.

Ted Cruz goes in as Czar, and sure the Russian Jews in Israel like that, since many of them took Palestinian land under Ariel Sharon and want to keep it, but Cruz might not have the stomach to defy those who steal land, who might be willing to die to keep that land. (That’s what we did to the American Indian.)

So as an easy way out, he’ll rely on the bible-document as his main witness and proof of ownership. God said the land belonged to the Jews and so it belongs to the Jews, and so it is decided. Yeah, he would definitely use the bible-document approach.

That would be a national security risk for the USA – settlers in Israel with USA connections wanting to teach a lesson to Americans about land rights. Evangelicals would probably get on board.

Right now, since the issues all surround real estate, Donald Trump – out of all the other candidates for president – has the best chance of negotiating a fair deal – honest or not.

VATICAN SIGNS TREATY WITH PALESTINE, MARKING IT AS A STATE

VATICAN CITY, June 26 (UPI) — The Vatican formally recognized Palestine as a state Friday, with the signing of a treaty, the product of 15 years of negotiations.

The agreement involves “essential aspects of the life and activity of the Catholic Church in the State of Palestine,” a Vatican statement said.

The acknowledgement of Palestine’s identity, Vatican ambassador Archbishop Paul Gallagher said, is meant to be a “stimulus to bringing a definitive end to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which continues to cause suffering for both parties.” He added he hoped the “much desired two-state solution may become a reality as soon as possible.”…
